The change
Today a change has been pushed trough which changed the way mcMMO influences fishing on MassiveCraft. Before today, players could fish up diamonds, records, armour sets and other valuable and worthless loot by simply catching fish. For several months now, this has caused some agitation among players as well as the staff, and today the decision was made to permanently disable any and all drops from the fishing skill. This means you will no longer receive any random loot from fishing.

Why?
We have several reasons for disabling drops from fishing.

  • Fishing proved more profitable for those with high levels than actually mining or mob grinding when it comes to experience and loot. Fishing is intended to catch fish, not replace mob hunting and mining as well.
  • Over the past months, more players have been banned for auto fishing than x-raying.
  • We believe catching random loot should have been a “novelty” not a main reason for fishing. There was no time or manpower available to change the Java code of mcMMO and to repeat this process with every update. Therefore we chose to disable it.
  • There were some powerful sounds from the player base over anger towards players who sat on their behinds getting rich off fishing.

I will simply quote the post, “There was no time or manpower available to change the Java code of mcMMO and to repeat this process with every update. Therefore we chose to disable it.”

Once again comes the predicament of not having multiple techs

I think, thats a good change. Not only because my fishing skill is very high but mainly because its true that very many players use fishing as alternative to mining and hunting. Of course this feature would produce problems, a.e. in in material richness.
While the amount of diamonds as ore ist finite, it isnt in fishing. So if your skilllevel is high enough, you have a much better alternative too mining with the benefits that you dont need to move and search for the worthy stuff. And while doing that you also get lots of xp and other more or less usefull stuff.
I can understand the staff and the lower ranked players in that caser very good.

@Chappers65, if you have read the whole post, you would know, why they disabled and not changed it: “There was no time or manpower available to change the Java code of mcMMO and to repeat this process with every update. Therefore we chose to disable it.”

i Agree Very Much, maybe someone needs to make a thing on the forum and if we get enough people to agree to it maybe we can get it back up

    Change the Java code?

There is absolutely no need to code anything. Mcmmo is highly adjustable via config. In all of 20 minutes of work fishing can be adjusted anywhere from exp bonus to exactly what items are dropping and drop percentages.

You are probably correct. Just a matter of editing the config. Anyways we could need some more manpower to edit configs then. Feel free to apply for the MassiveCraft team if you know how.

Thats kinda disappointing i have been getting my repair up just so i can salvage and create a shop and salvage all the items i caught i hope that one day maybe soon you can put it back so that the people of massivecraft can catch that again. And if you take that out its almost impossible to get ur repair up

Well I have like 20 servers on my desktop (not running) and changing the config is really easy it is just the fact that we need a conference on what it should be changed to is the main question like maybe drop rarity should be higher or something like that

As one of the people on server that has very high fishing skill and I had it for years I can speak what the real issue is. The biggest issue with fishing is not the loot you get, you will not get rich from it. What issue is is XP, not long ago change has been made in default settings which gives incredible amount of XP when fishing with high level of skill. With my skill level I can get 30 levels of XP in less then 5 minutes (you can imagine that I have few chests full of enchanted books). This is clearly overpowered. Fishing is beneficial to some extend to overall economy on this server. Some items that can be get trough fishing are simple impossible to get any other way or way to hard to get. IMHO we should turn off XP for fishing, and maybe slightly lower chance of getting loot. Changing config to do this is not hard work. On a note to apply for the MassiveCraft team I did that two time in past two years and I didn’t even get a replay from team so I gave up.

So…. people with low fishing now have NO reason to fish… and people like me, who got to high fishing legit, regret the last two weeks they spent fishing, without a bloody boat (I didn’t know boats made u fish faster >-<)
