Today the decision was made to make scamming bannable in any form, size or method. We used to allow scamming because we believed people should be allowed to RP as a charlatan if they desire. We however decided to make all forms of scamming bannable for the following reasons:

  • 7/8 new players who join the server are scammed within the first week
  • Factions as a plugin disables people from reacting to scamming, limitations such as Peaceful zone, neutral faction relations, being wilderness and on someone elses’s faction land
  • Essentials as a plugin disables people from reacting to scamming, people can just teleport away leaving the victim with no response.
  • There is currently no good method to mark players as charlatans or criminals.
  • We do not want to teach young child players that scamming is a rewarding way of living.

If you find yourself the victim of any form of scam, make sure you submit a ban request for the scammer to the appropriate section on the forum. You are asked to supply Screenshots/Video’s, names and possibly also a timestamp of the date and hour/minute when the scam happened.

Scam is defined by: Not paying the promised price after a person have gived you the items and keeping the items afterwards, or not giving items after being payed a promised price. Nothing more right?

    Finally!

I heavily disagree with this. Seems being a thief on the server will be even more difficult…

…but raiding / taking things through force is still allowed, right?

The last reason alone was good enough, in my opinion.

What happens if some one new to MassiveCraft joins and gives some one all
there money and they have not looked on massivecraft.com that much do they just lose the money because they do not have any Screenshots?

I couldn’t agree more! Thanks for changing that rule! There is no point in RPing as a thief, when there are no consequences, because of the safezones.

So I am assuming premium scamming still does not apply.

Premium scamming is bannable too, note my previous post cleverly leaves out any mention of us banning offenders. It only states we will not protect the victims.

I think it shouldn’t be bannable but an idea is that before their name on chat it says *SCAMMER* So that people know not to trust them.

    • Paradoxalanomaly 2013-01-28 at 22:37

that’s a good idea but it would be better if we had a plugin that you trade an item via command and when they enter the money you both switch money for item.

About time too, I always wondered by you’d allow such a bad form of gameplay into the server. I am sure some creative minds will come up with good ideas and suggestions on how to allow some form of rouge like activities without it being straight up disrespectful.

At least now people playing as genuine traveling merchants have a little peace of mind.

thing is, what exactly constitutes as a scam? like if i were to overprice items, its obvious how much they cost. (i sell them to the ppl raiding me,sorta like payback) does that count?
